UAB Biomedical Research Building

The Comprehensive Diabetes Center is comprised of faculty members conducting both clinical and basic research related to diabetes and its complications.  Current areas of research include autoimmune type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, complications, genetics, epidemiology, transplantation, health disparities, community outreach, and intervention studies. Faculty research projects are supported by funding from the National Institutes of Health, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association, VA Medical Center, and the Centers for Disease Control. 

 

Diabetes Research and Training Center

Principal Investigator: W. Timothy Garvey, MD

The UAB Comprehensive Diabetes Center is an NIH-funded Diabetes Research and Training Center (DRTC). The UAB DRTC is one of only six in the nation. This prestigious award provides research resources to the UAB diabetes research community through a number of scientific core facilities. The DRTC also provides funding for a Pilot & Feasibility award program designed to foster the careers of new diabetes researchers.
