About Us

UAB Biomedical Research Building

The Comprehensive Diabetes Center is the result of a collaborative effort between UAB, Children’s Hospital and members of the Birmingham Community.

The Board of Trustees of the University of Alabama approved the formation of the Comprehensive Diabetes Center in September 2006.  In August 2007, Dr. John Corbett joined UAB as Director of the Center.

The Comprehensive Diabetes Center is comprised of clinical and research faculty with interests encompassing autoimmune type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, pre-diabetes, risk factors, epidemiology, complications, community outreach and intervention programs.

The members of the Comprehensive Diabetes Center are critical to its goal of becoming one of the nation’s foremost diabetes research centers and patient care providers.

UAB Comprehensive Diabetes Center Vision Statement

UAB envisions a Comprehensive Diabetes Center (CDC) which serves as one of the nation’s foremost contributors to cutting-edge diabetes research, comprehensive education and training, and provides state-of-the-art clinical care to our patient population.  This will be achieved by developing national prominence in diabetes-related research, expanding community outreach and providing state-of-the art clinical facilities.  The UAB Comprehensive Diabetes Center research, training, and clinical programs will be nationally recognized contributors in the quest for the cure for type 1 diabetes.
